It is no lie The eagles fly The angels cry aloud The thick grey sleet Fills flooded streets and homes And you’re alone Can’t live without the rain The siren’s call The victim’s fall The bomber’s moon is black The siren’s wail The soldier’s fail They’re never coming back And we’re alone again And I can’t stand the rain… Against my window The wind in my hair The Gods are crying thunder As it falls on Berkeley square Oh as it falls on Berkeley square oh-oh The home fires burn The planes return I hope it’s not too late She knows my name She feels the same She always makes me wait And I’m alone again And I can’t stand the rain…

Glasgow Kiss 05:30
Love is a Glasgow kiss It’s like this It really moves And with a fragile grace it breaks And now I’m cursed With a crazy bitch Death wish And what’s worse Is that I love you And all the fucking… Words that spurt from the mind of a man One word, but it hurts like a shot from a gun And the things that we’ve done Just admit they was wrong But now it’s gone Blitz And a hazy mist in the air But she doesn’t care This is world war two blues So bombs away Raze this town to dust Don’t delay Sentence me Cos all these fucking little… Cheers Never far from tears We drink to the time When it’s all alright now Satisfy your reasons why in words Fool if you think it works Use the fucking… Words that spurt from the mind of a girl Just one word, does it hurt? Like a curse from a kid And the things Which we did Just admit They were shit So glad it’s gone

Exiles 05:34
Wake Up It’s a new day The snow is falling and the skies are grey Cast off! Pray for wind When this child was born Did you have to mourn For the one whose lost at the dark end of the world? All the time was saved From the cradle to the grave Lost at sea and calling out to me The Berlin wall came down But in this northern town Love has gone to ground The sailor’s decree If you are young you fall And if you’re poor you can crawl on the floor We’re exiles from the law of hegemony Spirits groaning under gravestones Their restless wanderings and their broken homes Cast off! Pray for wind And if you search the world To find the one you love You’ll always find me there at the dark end of the world And when you come back home Floating in the foam Drifting in the gloam Lost at sea And when the walls come down Stuck in this northern town Love has gone to ground The council decree If you are young you fall And if you’re poor you can crawl on the floor We’re exiles from the law of hegemony Happy birthday you Happy birthday too I’m in charge, bon voyage See you in this tune Rock ‘n’ roll, 8 bells toll Ringing through the gloom Sail away through the grey Hope to see you soon

Benjamin Pell He’s scratching sores at the gates of hell My God he’s looking thin But he doesn’t miss a thing And life stinks Do Coldplay care? Do they shit And all the saviours and All Saints Sing in the dark Gone to ground When we die There’ll be no stars in the sky No Christmas films on TV When you’re free You’ll never need the NME So let’s try Those who can’t will always cry And words like flesh have all gone to ground Ultrasound At least while I’m around Fuck off If we follow you we get lost You’re as fake as the fuckin’ scene You’ve never been to me…hah! Jonathon King He never did learn how to sing He sank so soon We’ve all gone to the moon Lost in space

All Clear 05:12
Why don’t you love me I know that you’re lonely And I’ve got a big knee We’re the victims of apathy It’s our peacetime enemy And we’re drowning in the past I wish those old days Would finally leave us behind I don’t need reminding Love me I’ll be your Al Bowlly So won’t you please come home Searchlights seeking the stars When she comes could it be the last time Hold me close tonight There’s a new day dawning Bowlly takes to the stage Join me here in my air raid shelter Hear those sirens call…all clear I’ve been down London And got a gold tooth and a problem But up in heaven there’s a new one Down in those gold streets I saw the ghost of Al Bowlly He said the future looks bleak I wish those old days Would finally leave us behind I don’t need reminding Al Bowlly Just a Jew down Jermyn Street When they dropped the bomb

about

Most of the songs contained herein have elements of trawling through a past. A sick melancholic stroll through a world of decaying tenements and creaking ghostly remains, where bomb sites throw up monstrous reminders of sickness and horror juxtaposed with warm fondness, and sepia tinged pictures of long forgotten scenes come trundling out of a vision of nostalgia to reveal the ugly underbelly of modern reality. Also the occasional rude word, so it's a bit like Carry On Camus. Now there's a film I'd watch!
